What is Boat Safe?

The Boat Safe mobile application is an initiative by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources to reduce the number of people that engage in dangerous and illegal behavior while on the water in Kentucky.

Boating and drinking don’t mix. Every year, accidents happen from being intoxicated and trying operate a vessel. Additionally, drinking while on the water results in unnecessary drowning accidents every year. Kentucky’s laws that address boating and drinking are specifically designed to prevent this dangerous behavior.

Boat Safe is free to everyone and every boater should download this free and important app.

The Boat Safe app provides these great features -

Blood Alcohol Estimator to insure you aren’t operating a vessel over the legal limit however, under no circumstances should you rely on the Blood Alcohol Estimator to determine whether you are fit or not to operate a vessel. The BAC is a guideline only and should not be relied upon, use the BAC and Impairment goggles for entertainment only.

A list of all marinas located in Kentucky – through GPS you can find the closest marina should you need help

Boating safety information – including a list of the required safety equipment that must be onboard the vessel

The app uses your GPS location running in the background so you can receive safety information and important weather information based on your location. These services are available if you enable Push Notifications and GPS location services only.
